We have collected and organised over 500 publications into a digital handbook – a new way to navigate all the EUDiF resources, from proprietary research to lessons learned from our projects and stories from the people who make diaspora engagement tick. Public Partnerships Lead Charlotte Griffiths shares the background and how to use this new interface.
Since starting in 2019, sharing what we have l earned about diaspora engagement has been core to achieving EUDiF’s vision of an “informed, inclusive and impactful diaspora-development ecosystem.”
The EUDiF website has long been our digital knowledge hub, housing everything from the country factsheets (123, annually updated!) to in-depth case studies, practice collections, think-pieces, personal stories and much more.
Until now, we organised our publications by location and around four thematic clusters (economic growth, human capital, enabling environment, empowering diaspora organisations) – but this felt too limited for such a large body of work. So, over the last few months, we took a step back and decided to categorise everything using the sectors of engagement framework developed for our practice database.
The result: 500+ products organised into six clusters based on 41 sectors of engagement, plus a special stakeholder cluster about diaspora and government, our major partners.
Knowledge clusters
- Stakeholders: diaspora and government
- Human capital and empowerment
- Economic development
- Rights, governance and protection
- Social inclusion and identity
- Crisis response and recovery
- Health and environment
Combining deep-dives, projects outputs and stories from around the globe, this new structuring of the project’s knowledge is a veritable handbook on diaspora engagement. As well as EUDiF’s proprietary resources and activities, you can also see and access the practices of each cluster’s sub-sectors – there are over 700 practices and counting across the 41 sectors!
What next?
This handbook is by no means complete. Whilst we have materials in each cluster, a few specific sub-sectors therein are not yet covered – but that doesn’t mean they won’t be! The EUDiF team is developing new resources to continue filling in knowledge gaps.
By the end of the year, you can look forward to publications on WASH and agriculture amongst others.
Ready, steady, go!
Visit the Our knowledge page and dig into the handbook now. As you explore the clusters ask yourself if you agree with them – it is by no means a definitive system and has certainly provoked debate in the team!

Diaspora engagement is constantly evolving and our handbook is designed to evolve with it.
