The Cabinet of Ministers of Sri Lanka approved an initiative supporting the modernisation of consular services by allowing Sri Lankans overseas to apply for passports online (including biometric submission) through 20 diplomatic missions. The system is connected directly with the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Colombo, thereby streamlining processing and reducing waiting times. The project is implemented by IOM, with funding from the Government of Japan.
