In 2025, the government’s embassy in Banjul launched its first-ever citizenship campaign to grant nationality to descendants of Guinea-Bissau living in The Gambia. The initiative aims to strengthen ties betewen Guinea-Bissau and its diaspora, as well as regularise the status of its descendants in The Gambia.
