The initiative aims to promote financial inclusion among the diaspora by providing a means for Mexicans living in the United States to send remittances via electronic transfers instead of cash deposits. The commission costs 2,99 USD – one of the lowest in the market – and a compensation mechanism implemented by FINABIEN will reimburse a 1% tax previously paid by migrants to the U.S. government for sending remittances. The card can be obtained free of charge online or in person at any of the 53 consulates of Mexico and requires only documentation (INE, consular registration, passport), a mobile number and an email address.
