Matricula Consular

Country flag
Latin America
2000

In the early 2000s, the Mexican Government promoted the issuing of their ‘matricula consular’ among its diaspora. The MC is an identification card issued by the government through consular offices to confirm that the carrier is a Mexican national. The consular identification card has become an important vehicle for Mexican migrants to obtain drivers’ licenses and open bank accounts, for example.
