Vulnerable youth in Beirut: Improving their digital skills for a sustainable future
Lebanon’s youth unemployment, estimated at 47.8% in 2022, has been compounded by the 2024 crisis, highlighting the need for of creating sustainable and inclusive employment opportunities.
This D4D project, led by Alissar, addresses this challenge by equipping 30 vulnerable young people in Beirut with targeted digital skills training to enhance their employability and independence.
Together with experts from Mode 83, a French association specialised in inclusive digital training, and the local training centre SE Factory, the initiative promotes digital inclusion while building pathways to work for Beirut’s youth.
Budget
€ 35,000
Through a structured peer exchange between Mode 83 and SE Factory, the activity enriches SE Factory’s digital training modules. It promotes reciprocal learning and collaborative design, drawing on Mode 83’s inclusive pedagogical frameworks and SE Factory’s contextual expertise in digital training delivery in Lebanon.
30 young people in Beirut receive a blended training on technical modules and soft skills. The training includes online instruction complemented by on-site training activities hosted in Beirut and will cover a wide range of in-demand technical and soft skills, including programming fundamentals and communication skills. Therefore, participants gain both foundational knowledge and exposure to emerging tools and best practices.
This activity aims to provide tailored coaching and post-training support to all 30 youth participants. A diaspora coach will work closely with participants to strengthen soft skills, guide portfolio development, and connect them to job or entrepreneurship pathways. Mode 83 will guide the coaching framework and tools.
The goal is to connect graduates to professional opportunities, such as job opportunities, interviews, internships, or freelance work, through targeted outreach and matchmaking efforts. Emphasis will be placed on leveraging existing and new networks to arrange one-on-one interviews or concrete professional contacts for graduates.
This activity focuses on evaluating the project’s effectiveness, capturing lessons learned, and disseminating results to support sustainability and potential replication.
